Questions & Answers - Consultant Selection Process
What is a Request for Proposal?
A request for proposal (referred to as RFP) is an invitation for consultants to submit a proposal on a specific service being requested. The RFP process brings structure to selection and hiring of consultant services. RFPs can also assist in clearly identifying a scope of work for the consulting services upfront.
Why is the City drafting an RFP for Miller Avenue?
The City is requesting proposals from qualified urban planning/landscape architecture design firms to prepare a conceptual roadway design and Streetscape Plan for Miller Avenue. The Miller Avenue Streetscape Plan will include those segments of Miller Avenue from Sunnyside Avenue to Almonte Avenue. The selected design team will work closely with City Staff, the Miller Avenue Design Advisory Committee (DAC), elected officials, and the community. As such, the design team needs to have proven expertise at working effectively with such constituencies, and needs to understand the history and character of Mill Valley as well as the utilization, function and relationship of Miller Avenue to Mill Valley as a whole.
What are the next steps in the RFP process?
The City of Mill Valley intends to use the creativity and innovation that suppliers build into their proposals to judge and evaluate suppliers against each other. These proposals will be posted on this webpage. Below is the proposed schedule for public review and selection of a design firm for the Miller Avenue Streetscape Plan:
