The Foundation
The Mill Valley Library Foundation plays an integral role in the public-private partnership that supports the Library. The Foundation was founded in 1983 to build a permanent endowment and protect the Library’s future. Recognizing increasing limitations in taxpayer support, the Foundation recently expanded its mission. It will continue to build and protect its permanent endowment while also launching annual appeals to attract unrestricted funding. This will help the Library pursue many compelling opportunities to serve our community in new and exciting ways.
The Foundation’s mission is to raise funds to ensure the library offers outstanding services—beyond the basics of city funding—today and in the future.
The Foundation charter provides that the Foundation's funds will not be used for Library operations, but instead will be dedicated for key library projects identified by the City Librarian, which the Library would not otherwise be able to undertake. The Foundation is directed by private citizens.
The Library is a cherished Mill Valley institution with a long legacy of serving Mill Valley residents. In 2011 The Library will celebrate its Centennial! The Foundation will soon be launching its Centennial Appeal, and we hope you will consider participating. Watch for details in coming weeks.
