Garry Lion was elected to the City Council in November, 2007. He previously served on the City Council from 1986-1990, during which time he held the positions of Mayor, Vice-Mayor, President of the North Bay Division of the League of California Cities and President of the Sewage Agency of South Marin (SASM).

He is now Mill Valley's representative to the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG), and the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce (where he was previously President-Elect of the Board). He also serves by appointment of the Marin Board of Supervisors on County positions with Flood Control District #3 and the Marin Economic Commission (representing the Marin County Council of Mayors and Councilmembers).

He is CEO of Lion Associates, a website design consulting firm he co-founded with his son Mark in Mill Valley. He is also President of the Board of Artisans, a nonprofit educational arts organization founded in Mill Valley. He has lived in Mill Valley 34 years and currently resided with his wife Nini in the Scott Valley neighborhood. His daughter Casey is a pediatrician in residency at Seattle Children’s Hospital.
