New Business Owner/Leasee of Commercial Property

cityhall 2 at 150.jpgOpening a new business or expanding an existing business can be difficult at best, considering all the current regulatory issues. Although the City of Mill Valley plays a part in this bureaucratic process, our motivation is to try make it as painless as possible.

To accomplish this, we encourage you to make a visit to the Building and Planning Department your first stop.

Starting with your business license, and moving on through zoning and building requirements, a consultation with the appropriate department may often save valuable time and money by determining what is feasible before you begin the actual process.

This is especially important if you are planning alterations/tenant improvements to an existing space. In addition to the zoning issues this may raise, there may be Building Department requirements that could significantly impact a proposed budget. Regulations from other departments may also apply.

We realize how important this is in today's economic climate, as well as how important it is that a business be up and running as quickly as possible. To that end, we strive to streamline the process as much as possible.

For the hours of operation and availability for consultation for the Planning or Building Department please click here.

Specific information for other departments may also be found on the City Website. Or, simply call our receptionist during regular business hours for further direction if necessary. We can be reached at (415) 388-4033.

We are currently developing a Frequently Asked Questions page on this topic to provide more specific information on this subject. Look for this in the near future.

So, come on down.... and we'll try to get you started on the right foot!
