The Mission of the Mill Valley Fire Department is to continuously meet the needs of our community in the most effective and efficient means possible.

On behalf of everyone in the Mill Valley Fire Department, welcome to our website.  Our staff of nearly 35, including sworn, volunteer and civilian personnel, is proud to provide services to the community of Mill Valley in a caring and professional manner.  Our mission is to continuously meet the needs of our community in the most effective and efficient means possible.  Our people do that daily through prevention, education and emergency response.  The Mill Valley Fire Department has a rich history and has proudly served the community for over 100 years.

Our firefighters are highly skilled and trained "all-risk" emergency responders providing services to Mill Valley out of two fire stations.  We provide public education, inspection services, plan checking, vegetation management and post-incident fire investigation through our fire prevention efforts.

Use 911 for life threatening emergencies only. Our emergency warning system is tested on the first Saturday of each month at noon. If you hear the siren at any other time, tune in to KCBS 740 AM and KGO 810AM and local tv stations for further information.

Small Earthquake – Big Message

On August 22, 2017 a 3.0 magnitude earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean.

Approximately 7 miles outside the San Francisco Bay. Although the earthquake was relatively small and resulted in no appreciable damage, the Mill Valley Emergency Preparedness Commission (EPC) urges you to take heed prior to the “big one”. This small quake was in the same general location as the 1906 earthquake that so devastated San Francisco. The U.S. Geological Survey states there is a 72% probability of a significant earthquake at some point before 2043.
