The Cypress Trail is located in the Cascade Canyon neighborhood and runs just above Rose Ave. It connects Cypress Avenue to the Monte Vista and Tenderfoot trails.
In 1995, the Mill Valley City Council adopted a Resolution prohibiting the riding or use of bicycles or horses on the Cypress Trail.

The all-volunteer group Friends of the Steps, Lanes and Paths is kicking off a city-wide “Adopt-an-SLP” program for individuals, families, neighborhood groups, schools, book clubs, businesses, scouts or scout troops can formally Adopt and SLP.
In the past few months City staff has worked to make repairs to Steps, Lanes, and Paths including repairing handrails and steps and cutting back vegetation obstructing pathways.
The Mill Valley City Council has adopted a resolution that takes deliberate and thoughtful action to directly address community concerns about the preservation and protection of the community’s very special Steps, Lanes, and Paths (SLPs).
The City continues to work on its Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan Update (Plan).
Staff will return to the City Council on March 20th to propose a resolution that would establish an official SLP inventory and map, as well as strengthen enforcement against SLP encroachments.
At their City Council meeting on January 17, the Council reviewed and restated its support of the City’s Steps, Lanes and Paths (SLPs) program. Since then, the City has received and taken action on a number of encroachment complaints.
The Mill Valley City Council held a joint meeting with members of the Save Our Trails Committee to discuss the importance of the Steps, Lanes and Paths (SLPs) and the shared desire to protect them.
The conversation will continue at a community meeting on January 25, 2017 -7:00 pm at the Mill Valley Community Center.
The City has made a commitment to support, study and prioritize improvements to the City’s SLPs, and has over many years dedicated considerable funds and resources to improving and enhancing this important resource; this philosophy and financial commitment continues today.
