The all-volunteer group Friends of the Steps, Lanes and Paths is kicking off a city-wide “Adopt-an-SLP” program for individuals, families, neighborhood groups, schools, book clubs, businesses, scouts or scout troops can formally Adopt an SLP.
What does it mean to Adopt an SLP?
The program encourages adopters to walking the steps, lane or the path every month or so to verify that it is in good condition. Regular maintenance would include raking leaves, pulling weeds, and trimming edge bushes to keep the SLP in great condition.
Any problems that are found with an adopted SLP (missing step, down handrail, bad erosion) can be brought to the attention of the Friends or the City of Mill Valley Department of Public Works so the issue may be addressed.
To formally adopt a SLP click here; the Friends of the Steps, Lanes, and Paths will record your commitment and confirm that you are the registered adopter of that SLP.
Second Saturday SLP Improvement Program
The Mill Valley Friends of Steps, Lanes and Paths celebrate the initiation of their Second Saturday of the Month SLP Improvement Program this coming Saturday, November 11. The project this Saturday will be to clear brush and debris from the foot of SLP 17 on lower Wildomar Street to the top of SLP 17 on Molino Avenue. All skills are welcome! Wear your jeans - bring your gloves, rakes and pruning shears. This SLP is going to shine when we are done! Meet at the foot of SLP 17 on Wildomar off Ethel at 9 a.m. We will work till about noon. Carpool (or walk/ride your bike) if you can – parking will be scarce.
The Mill Valley Friends of the Steps, Lanes and Paths is newly organized group of volunteers dedicated to working with the City to maintain the steps, lanes and paths, ensure that their rights of way are not encroached upon and to promote their use by all. An SLP improvement project will be held on the second Saturday of each month in collaboration with the City of Mill Valley Volunteer Program.
A special thanks to Hugh Kuhn who has organized this group and program to help preserve the Steps, Lanes, and Paths for years to come.
