Over the last year or so, City staff has collaborated with our Marin counterparts to update the Uniform Construction Standards (UCS). The UCS outlines how to design and construct various improvements in the public right of way. This includes retaining walls, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, drains etc. The UCS protect the public by facilitating homeowner and contractor understanding and practices. All agencies in Marin follow the standards.
The County of Marin recently updated and adopted the standards in July of 2018. The previous UCS version was from May of 2008.
Engineering staff began notifying permittees and stakeholders of the new standards in the early months of 2018. The new UCS focus on improved Trench Repair and Pavement Restoration Standards. The new standards emphasize the effort to preserve Marin's roadways. They also protect the significant investment placed in our local streets. It is important that the standards are consistent across all Marin Agencies.
