Some Mill Valley residents have noticed the fresh paint on Camino Alto. The new striping is part of the Camino Alto Bike Lane Project, a federally funded project to create bike lanes on Camino Alto between East Blithedale Avenue and Miller Avenue. Work crews installed the new stripes the week of April 26, 2019. The project includes paving repairs to the new bike lanes, modifying a median to create enough room for the new bike lanes, signing, and striping.
Residents may wonder why work crews only repaired the pavement in the bike lanes, and not the pavement in the vehicular travel lanes. This is because the Federal funds were only eligible to be used for bike lanes.
City staff is currently preparing plans for repaving Camino Alto using local funds such as the Municipal Service Tax (MST) and Senate Bill 1 gas tax. We plan to repave the vehicular travel lanes later this year. Permanent thermoplastic will be applied as part of the upcoming pavement rehabilitation project.
