At their City Council meeting on October 7, the City Council introduced an Ordinance to update current regulations to clarify the chapters in the City's Municipal Code pertaining to the control of dogs in public places. The City has held three public meetings on the issue, presenting recommendations to better articulate current Municipal Code language and existing regulations to the general public.
Over the years, there has been confusion regarding terms used in the Municipal Code, such as "running at large" and "under immediate control." Clarification of the rules and language will be helpful for dog owners while respecting the community's intrinsic affinity for our four-legged friends. Concil concurred with the Staff recommendation to modify the wording of our Municipal Code to more closely align with the Recreation Department's policies and practices, to provide better public understanding of the current dog control laws.
