City Manager Jim McCann Receives Warm Sendoff from City Council, Colleagues, Friends and Family

Friends, family and colleagues of City Manager Jim McCann gathered to send him off on his new adventures on Tuesday, January 21, 2020.

Mayor Jim Wickham read the following:

A PROCLAMATION OF THE MILL VALLEY CITY COUNCIL 
HONORING CITY MANAGER JAMES C. MCCANN 
ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT
FROM THE CITY OF MILL VALLEY, CALIFORNIA   

WHEREAS, after a 35-year career in local government, Mill Valley City Manager Jim McCann announced his retirement effective early February 2020; and

WHEREAS, McCann joined the City of Mill Valley in 2010 after serving as City Manager in Calistoga for 11 years.  Prior to working in Calistoga, he worked in the cities of Petaluma, Napa and Rancho Mirage, California, as well as for a private land use and environmental planning firm; and 

WHEREAS, City Manager McCann oversaw an annual budget of approximately $40 million and an organization comprised of 150 full-time employees across eight departments that collectively serve the Mill Valley community of nearly 14,000 residents.  His dynamic leadership and community outreach ensured that City Council policies were implemented; and

WHEREAS, numerous community-serving projects and efforts were initiated and completed during his tenure including the MV2040 General Plan, Miller Avenue Streetscape Project, Community Communications Strategy including new City website, televising public meetings and comprehensive communications tools and protocols; and

WHEREAS, other accomplishments include Strategic Plans for the Fire, Police, Library and Recreation Departments, expansion of Fire Preparedness and Prevention funding and outreach, traffic congestion reduction initiatives such as the Yellow School Bus program, the City’s Long-Range Financial Plan and maintaining the City’s AAA rating; and

WHEREAS, the City of Mill Valley and its residents will be forever grateful for his outstanding leadership, enthusiasm and dedication to the City of Mill Valley; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jim Wickham, Mayor of the City of Mill Valley, recognize and acknowledge with appreciation and thanks to City Manager Jim McCann, and wish both Jim and his wife Gretchen our very best in the years ahead.
