Miller Avenue Construction Update - Week of August 10

The Miller Avenue Streetscape Project is an 18-month construction project to repairinfrastructure and improve multi-modal use of Miller Avenue, includingaddressing safety for pedestrians and bicyclists of all ages and abilities,providing better transit access, and improving motorist safety.

Construction began the week of June 13, 2016 and will continue through Fall2017. Please note that all construction schedules are subject to change due toweather restrictions and other unforeseen delays.

Here is the latest news on the Miller Avenue Streetscape Project:

What happened last week: 
Work crews completed thefollowing last week: 

  • Placed concrete sidewalk improvements between 319 Miller Avenue and Locust Street. 
  • Continued sanitary sewer lateral and main line work along the south side of Miller Avenue between Montford Avenue and Willow Street. 
  • Conducted grading operations for curb, gutter and sidewalk improvements between Evergreen Avenue and Valley Circle on the north side of Miller Avenue.

What is happening this week:
The Contractor will placeconcrete for new curb and gutter between Valley Circle and Evergreen Avenuealong the north side of Miller Avenue. Crews will continue sanitary sewer mainand lateral improvements along the south side of Miller Avenue between WillowStreet and Reed Street.

PG&E continues to work their way on MillerAvenue from Gomez Way towards Reed Street on their main and service lateralproject. Please anticipate lane shifts and some parking impacts from 8 am to 5pm during weekdays.

What to expect in the next few weeks:
Work crews willcontinue to demolish and replace curb, gutter, and sidewalk on the north side ofMiller Avenue between Valley Circle and Locust Avenue. The Contractor hassurpassed their schedule projections and will starting sidewalk demolition,underground repairs and replacement sooner than anticipated in some areas. Theanticipated time to complete a block of sidewalk is expected to be approximately4 weeks from initial demolition through completion of new sidewalk.

Other Construction Projects Around Town:

  • Camino Alto Sewer Facility Improvements: The Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin is working on Camino Alto to upgrade and replace sewage facilities to allow the agency to continue to serve the community in a safe and efficient manner. Work on this project is significantly complete with minor items remaining to be completed by Friday, August 26, 2016.
  • 2016 Street and Sewer Upgrades: Work continues on sewer replacements on Hamilton Ave, Shelter Bay Ave and Olive Ave. The streets will be repaved following completion of the sewer line upgrades. Slurry seal resurfacing has been completed on approximately 40 roadway segments over the last week, with another 5 or so segments to be completed by the end of the week.
  • MMWD Waterline Improvements: Work crews are completing water line improvements on Corte Madera Ave and are expected to be completed within the next week or so.


The City recommends that motorists:

  • Add time to your trip and plan ahead.
  • Drive slowly through the construction zone.
  • Please be courteous to your neighbors and do not to cut through the residential side streets during the construction period.

City and Construction Management staff are making every effort to mitigateimpacts during construction and are working with the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce to notifylocal businesses and residents of the planned work. City and ConstructionManagement staff will provide regular updates to the community regarding theproject.
