Miller Avenue Lane Shift Starts October 6

The upcoming phase of the Miller Avenue Streetscape Project consists of closing the outbound direction (away from downtown) from Willow Street to Park Avenue to install new sewer manholes. During this work, work crews will reroute traffic along the outbound direction of Miller Avenue. Construction will occur in four phases of work and is anticipated to take approximately 2-3 days per phase (or a total of 1-2 weeks to complete). Construction is anticipated to begin the October 6, 2016 but is subject to change. The project area is shown on maps here and here.

City and Construction Management staff is making every effort to mitigate impacts during construction. However, the scheduled work will temporarily impact the following:

Median Parking
Outbound traffic will be detoured around the worksite through the median parking areas from Willow Street to Park Avenue. As a result, median parking will not be available during construction hours.

Work crews will post “No Parking” signs in the area 72 hours prior to the start of construction. Parking will be restricted from 7:00am to 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. Residents may park in the median in the evening (after 5:30pm) and overnight, given that vehicles are removed by 7:00am. When the work in a section is finished, workers will remove the signs and restore parking to normal use.

The temporary parallel parking adjacent to the inbound traffic lanes will remain available at all times during this phase of construction. Work crews will not stage construction equipment in these parking spaces to allow for public parking in the area.

Traffic & Driveway Access
As indicated above, outbound Miller Avenue will be closed and traffic will be diverted around the worksite with traffic cones to delineate the inbound and outbound traffic lanes. (See illustrations attached).

Driveways within the work zone will have a temporary delay for entrance and exit. There will be a crew member onsite to help residents in and out during construction. We anticipate four work zones each taking approximately 2 days each.

Motorists, please slow down, and never cut through the cones. Keep a safe distance from construction vehicles and other cars and obey traffic control personnel. Stay alert and minimize distractions. Expect delays - plan ahead and allow extra time if you will be travelling through a construction zone.

We are making every effort to mitigate impacts during construction, and we thank you for your cooperation and patience. We are available to answer questions and review concerns, please contact us.
