The Miller Avenue Streetscape Project is an 18-month construction project to repair infrastructure and improve multi-modal use of Miller Avenue, including addressing safety for pedestrians and bicyclists of all ages and abilities,providing better transit access, and improving motorist safety.
Construction began the week of June 13, 2016 and will continue through Fall 2017. Please note that all construction schedules are subject to change due to weather restrictions and other unforeseen delays.

What happened last week:
The contractor replaced sewer laterals and cleanouts on the existing 10-inch sewer pipe in the Parkway area near Vogue Cleaners and the Mill Valley Lumber Yard. Work crews graded soils, installed electrical and irrigation systems and placed concrete between La Goma Street and and the public parking lot across from Whole Foods Market. The contractor finished installing the 21-inch sewer line in the Employee Parking Lot on the south side of Miller Avenue just east of the Mill Creek Plaza building containing Balboa Cafe, and began to install the 8-inch sewer line in the same area. Work crews installed electrical systems and began placing new concrete curbs and sidewalks on the south side of Miller Avenue between Willow Street and Locust Avenue, while the electrical subcontractor worked on installation of the bases for the new streetlights.
What is happening this week:
The contractor is using grout to seal up the reinforced concrete pipe of the storm drain on the north side of Miller Avenue between Valley Circle and La Goma Street. Work crews are continuing to pave new driveways in that area as well. The contractor continues to install sewer system manholes on the 10-inch sewer line in the Parkway section near Vogue Cleaners and the Mill Valley Lumber Yard, as well as sewer laterals and cleanouts on the 15-inch sewer line. Work crews are finishing the sewer system manholes and replacing sewer laterals and cleanouts in the Passage section near Vogue Cleaners and the Mill Valley Lumber Yard. The contractor continues to grade soils, install electrical and irrigation systems and place concrete between Willow Street and Locust Avenue. Work crews continue to work on the streetlight bases on the north side of Miller Avenue between Valley Circle and Willow Street. The landscape contractor continues prepare the landscaping work to be done on the north side of Miller Avenue.
Also, PG&E is scheduled to pave a gas line trench between Reed Street and Gomez Way, which will impact 40 parking spaces. The work will take place on Wednesday, October 12, which is a Tam High Staff Development Day and there will be no school in session.
What to expect in the next few weeks:
The contractor will continue to grout the reinforced concrete pipe of the storm drain on the north side of Miller Avenue between Valley Circle and La Goma Street. Work crews will continue installing the sewer system manholes and the 15-inch sewer line in the Parkway section near Vogue Cleaners and the Mill Valley Lumber Yard. The contractor will replace sewer laterals between 27 Miller Avenue and 35 Miller Avenue. Work crews will continue in the Passage Sewer replacing SS lateral from 27 Miller Ave. to 35 Miller Ave. The contractor continues to grade soils, install electrical and irrigation systems and place concrete between Willow Street and Locust Avenue. Work crews will begin working on demolition and installing pedestrian barricades on the south side of Miller Avenue between Critterland Pets and the former location of Once Around in preparation of installing concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalk. The landscape contractor will start work digging out and cleaning up planter areas on the north side of Miller Avenue and placing top soil in them.
The Contractor will be starting preliminary sidewalk work in the Marsh area. This work is not related to the design of the Almonte/Miller intersection. No change to this intersection is imminent. This portion of the project is not scheduled to occur until spring of 2017. The Mill Valley City Council is extremely concerned with traffic congestion conditions and is aggressively pursuing multiple efforts to diminish traffic congestion. The City recommends that motorists:
Add time to your trip and plan ahead.
Drive slowly through the construction zone.
Please be courteous to your neighbors and do not to cut through the residential side streets during the construction period.
City and Construction Management staff are making every effort to mitigate impacts during construction and are working with the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce to notify local businesses and residents of the planned work.
