Miller Avenue Construction Update - Week of December 26

The Miller Avenue Streetscape Project is an 18-month construction project to repair infrastructure and improve multi-modal use of Miller Avenue, including addressing safety for pedestrians and bicyclists of all ages and abilities, providing better transit access, and improving motorist safety.

Construction began the week of June 13, 2016 and will continue through 2017. Please note that all construction schedules are subject to change due to weather restrictions and other unforeseen delays.

Here is the latest news on the Miller Avenue Streetscape Project:

What happened last week:
The contractor worked on grouting newly installed sewer lines. Work crews conducted roadway pavement grinding to address grade elevation changes along the south side of Miller between the Chevron Station at 340 Miller Avenue and Montford Avenue. The contractor placed concrete was placed for the center island medians North of Willow Street, and from Willow Street to Locust Avenue.

What is happening this week:
There is no construction work on Miller Avenue from December 23 through January 2, 2017 for the winter holidays. Work will resume on January 3, 2017.

What to expect in the next few weeks:

Parkway: Work crews will continue working on the concrete center island median North of Willow Street, and from Willow Street to Locust Avenue.

Gateway: Starting January 3, 2017, the contractor will install a new 15 inch sewer service in the Gateway area with an open trench operation on Miller Avenue. The alignment of the sewer is split between the two outbound through lanes, requiring both lanes to be closed between Gomez Way and Camino Alto. The improvements are expected to be completed by Saturday January 7, 2017

To accommodate this work, Gomez Way will be closed to outbound (downhill) traffic from Homestead Blvd to Miller Avenue. Detour signage will be placed at the intersection of Homestead Blvd and Gomez Way, directing motorists to use alternate routes such as Laverne Avenue, Reed St, or Almonte Blvd.

Please watch for lane changes, flaggers, changes to the operations of the Miller Ave/Camino Ave traffic signal, restricted parking in the area during regular business hours. Outbound cyclists will be detoured at Reed Street to use Sycamore and Camino Alto as an Alternate Route. Pedestrians and cyclists using the crosswalk to cross Miller Ave at Camino Alto will be guided around the work area by a flagger. This work has been scheduled during the school break to minimize impacts.

The City recommends that motorists:

  •  Add time to your trip and plan ahead.
  • Drive slowly through the construction zone.
  • Please be courteous to your neighbors and do not to cut through the residential side streets during the construction period.

City and Construction Management staff are making everyeffort to mitigate impacts during construction and are working with the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce to notify local businesses and residentsof the planned work. City and Construction Management staff will provide regular updates to the community regardingthe project.
