While flooded creeks and streams might appeal to adventurous kids and teens, the strong waters present a serious danger to those who enter. The Mill Valley Police Department has responded to reports of kids boogie boarding in the creeks during the storm, causing officials to make several rescues. While it might seem like a fun idea, the creeks are more powerful than they appear and are full of contaminants and debris. The force of the water, combined with the culverts and tunnels that exist, create extremely hazardous conditions for swimmers. Additionally, when safety officers have to respond to children playing in the creek, it not only puts our fire and police personnel at risk, it also makes our city’s safety resources unavailable for other emergencies. Parents are urged to relay these dangers to their kids. Please stay safe and remain out of the creeks during storms.
