Miller Avenue Construction Update - Week of March 6 - 10, 2017

The Miller Avenue Streetscape Project is an 18-month construction project to repair infrastructure and improve multi-modal use of Miller Avenue, including addressing safety for pedestrians and bicyclists of all ages and abilities, providing better transit access, and improving motorist safety.

Construction began the week of June 13, 2016 and will continue through 2017. Please note that all construction schedules are subject to change due to weather restrictions and other unforeseen delays.

Here is the latest news on the Miller Avenue Streetscape Project:

What happened last week: 
The contractor continued to install light poles in the center island medians and along the south side of Miller Avenue. Work crews placed concrete in the center island medians of Miller Avenue between Locust Avenue and Reed Street. The contractor continued to place the new concrete sidewalks in the Passage area of Miller Avenue between Millwood Street and Sunnyside Avenue, as well as in the Gateway area between Valley Circle and Camino Alto. Work crews continued to install underground storm drain check valves, as well as a manhole, on La Goma Street.

What is happening this week:
The contractor continues to install light poles in the center island medians and along the south side of Miller Avenue. Work crews are resuming the installation of irrigation systems in the center island medians, as well as planting topsoil there. The contractor continues to demolish existing concrete sidewalk and place new concrete sidewalks in the Passage area of Miller Avenue between Millwood Street and Sunnyside Avenue, as well as in the Gateway area between Valley Circle and Camino Alto. Work crews continue to install underground storm drain check valves, as well as a manhole. The contractor continues to investigate underground utilities along Miller Avenue, field work known as potholing, throughout the project in preparation of upcoming work on the asphalt road.

What to expect in the next few weeks:
Work crews will continue to install light poles in the center island medians and along the south side of Miller Avenue. The contractor will continue the installation of irrigation systems in the center island medians, as well as planting topsoil there. The contractor will continue to demolish existing concrete sidewalk and place new concrete sidewalks in the Passage area of Miller Avenue between Millwood Street and Sunnyside Avenue, as well as in the Gateway area between Valley Circle and Camino Alto. Work crews will begin demolishing the existing sidewalk and placing new sidewalk along the south side of Miller Avenue, starting at the Montford Avenue intersection where the 2am Club is located. The contractor will begin improvements in the Marsh section of the project between Camino Alto and Almonte Boulevard. Work crews will continue to investigate underground utilities along Miller Avenue, field work known as potholing, throughout the project in preparation of upcoming work on the asphalt road.

NOTE: All forecasted work is contingent on weather. Periods of heavy rain prevent work from occur and the scheduled work is pushed back accordingly.


The City recommends that motorists:

  • Add time to your trip and plan ahead
  • Drive slowly through the construction zone.
  • Please be courteous to your neighbors and do not to cut through the residential side streets during the construction period.

City and Construction Management staff are making every effort to mitigate impacts during construction and are working with the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce to notify local businesses and residents of the planned work. City and Construction Management staff will provide regular updates to the community regarding the project.
