Miller Avenue Construction Update - Week of March 27-31, 2017

What happened last week:
The contractor continued to install light poles in the center island medians between Locust Avenue and Reed Street and along the south side of Miller Avenue. Work crews continued to demolish existing concrete sidewalk and place new concrete sidewalks in the Parkway area of Miller Avenue between Millwood Street and Willow Street, as well as in the Gateway area between Valley Circle and Camino Alto. The contractor finished the investigation of underground utilities along Miller Avenue, field work known as potholing, throughout the project in preparation of upcoming work on the asphalt road. Work crews started making improvements in the Marsh section of the project between Camino Alto and Almonte Boulevard, specifically in front of the Pickleweed and Mill Creek apartment complexes, as well as on the stone wall on the south side of Miller Avenue. Two days of work were lost last week due to rain.

What is happening this week:

Work crews continue to demolish existing concrete sidewalk and place new concrete sidewalks in the Parkway area of Miller Avenue between Millwood Street and Willow Street, as well as in the Gateway area between Valley Circle and Camino Alto, particularly on the south side of Miller Avenue in front of the 2am Club. The contractor continues to make improvements in the Marsh section of the project between Camino Alto and Almonte Boulevard, specifically in front of the Pickleweed and Mill Creek apartment complexes. Work crews will finish the installation of the stone wall on the south side of Miller Avenue on Thursday.

What to expect in the next few weeks:

The contractor will continue to install light poles and electrical service in the center island medians between Locust Avenue and Reed Street and along the south side of Miller Avenue. Work crews will continue to install irrigation systems and plant top soil in the center island medians. The contractor will continue to demolish existing concrete sidewalk and place new concrete sidewalks in the Parkway area of Miller Avenue between Millwood Street and Willow Street, as well as in the Gateway area between Valley Circle and Camino Alto, particularly on the south side of Miller Avenue in front of the 2am Club. The contractor will continue to make improvements in the Marsh section of the project between Camino Alto and Almonte Boulevard, specifically in front of the Pickleweed and Mill Creek apartment complexes. Work crews expect to install the new bus shelter on the south side of Miller Avenue during the week of April 17. The shelter is currently being fabricated in the shop.


NOTE: All forecasted work is contingent on weather. Periods of heavy rain prevent work from occur and the scheduled work is pushed back accordingly.


The City recommends that motorists:

 

  •  Add time to your trip and plan ahead
  • Drive slowly through the construction zone.
  • Please be courteous to your neighbors and do not to cut through the residential side streets during the construction period.

City and Construction Management staff are making every effort to mitigate impacts during construction and are working with the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce to notify local businesses and residents of the planned work. City and Construction Management staff will provide regular updates to the community regarding the project.
