Miller Avenue Construction Update - Week of June 5 - 9, 2017

What happened last week:
The contractor continued to demolish the existing concrete and place the new crosswalks on Miller Avenue at Valley Circle and at Reed Street. Work crews continued to install the bus shelter on the south side of Miller Avenue. The contractor continued to install the Marsh Bridge. Work crews continued to place irrigation and new soil material in the center island medians. The contractor resumed installation of streetlights and street signage. Work crews began removing the existing concrete in the Parkway area of Miller Avenue between Millwood Street and Willow Street.

What is happening this week:

The contractor is installing underground utility crossings, placing irrigation systems and planting soils at various locations on Miller Avenue. Work crews are removing the trench plate concrete gutter and ramp into Una Way, which is across the street from Park Street on the Parkway section of Miller Avenue, and it will be opened to full access by Friday. Work crews will continue to demolish existing concrete and place new concrete in the east side crosswalk at Valley Circle and at Reed Street. The contractor will remove concrete in the Parkway section between Millwood Street and Willow Street to achieve the final roadway grade level.

What to expect in the next few weeks:

The contractor will continue to demolish the existing concrete sidewalk and place new concrete sidewalks in the Passage area of Miller Avenue between Sunnyside Avenue and Millwood Street. Work crews will begin to place concrete abutments for the future pedestrian bridge in the Marsh area near Tam High. The contractor will continue to remove concrete in the Parkway section between Millwood Street and Willow Street to achieve the final roadway grade level. Work crews will be grinding the existing asphalt in the Main Street section in preparation for the Full Depth Reclamation process in the Main Street section of the project between Willow Street and Reed Street/Valley Circle. That will continue for a couple of weeks. That will be followed by Full Depth Asphalt pulverization, final grading of the roadway and initial placement of the new asphalt.

NOTE: All forecasted work is contingent on weather.


The City recommends that motorists:
  •  Add time to your trip and plan ahead
  • Drive slowly through the construction zone.
  • Please be courteous to your neighbors and do not to cut through the residential side streets during the construction period.

City and Construction Management staff are making every effort to mitigate impacts during construction and are working with the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce to notify local businesses and residents of the planned work. City and Construction Management staff will provide regular updates to the community regarding the project.
