Want to serve on the Mill Valley City Council? You’re in luck! One City Council seat will be up for election for a one-year short term at the March 7, 2023, Special Municipal Election! The nomination period closes on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. (pending an extended nomination period, which closes on December 14, 2022). At their Regular City Council Meeting on September 19, 2022, the Mill Valley City Council adopted a Resolution calling for a Special Election on March 7, 2023 (PDF), to fill a vacancy on the City Council left by Councilmember Sabaratnam's (McEntee) resignation (PDF)

The City Council seat up for election at the March 7, 2023, Special Municipal Election would be filled from the date of the election's certification (approximately early April 2023) to the June 4, 2024, General Municipal Election. At that time, the seat will be up for election for a full four-year term on the City Council.

The City of Mill Valley is committed to promoting an equitable and inclusive environment welcoming to all who participate in municipal government. The City seeks diverse representation - candidates from all backgrounds and life experiences are encouraged to pull and file Nomination Papers. Candidates for City Council must reside within Mill Valley City Limits, at least 18 years of age, and a registered voter in the City of Mill Valley when nomination papers are issued. 

The nomination period for the March 7, 2023, Special Municipal Election opens on November 14, 2022, and closes at 5:00 p.m. on December 9, 2022 (pending extended nomination period, which closes on December 14, 2022).
