Planning and Building Staff Discuss Potential Impacts of State Housing Legislation

On September 15, 2017, the California Legislature sent 15 bills affecting local land use control of housing development for the Governor's signature. The bills include regulations related to "streamlining" the development review and approval processes; establishing "local accountability" through the Housing Element process; and creating new funding sources for the planned development and production of housing. At the February 5, 2018 City Council meeting, City planning staff presented an overview of potential impacts from this legislation and discussed next steps to ensure that the City maintains its local control, where possible.
