Heritage Tree Removal

The City of Mill Valley is removing a heritage redwood tree due to decay at the base. The tree is located on Molino Avenue, outside the property of 40 Wildomar Avenue. An assessment by two consulting arborists concluded that the tree is compromised by a large section of decay caused by an aggressive fungal pathogen, Armillaria, at the very base of the tree. The location of the tree and its size mean that a potential failure would be catastrophic. The only recommendation is to remove the tree. The current storm system has added impetus to the need to remove this compromised tree, and the current power outage and street closure in this section of Molino allow the contractor to work on the redwood safely.
