Notice of Roadway Construction/Roadway Closure

Fire Access Improvements – Marion Ave & Hazel Ave; Rose Ave & Hazel Ave

Mill Valley has many narrow streets and tight turns that have challenged fire equipment operators for many years. Multi point turns and narrow sections of road slow fire equipment responses to many locations in the City. The City Council approved project Plans, Specifications and Estimate and awarded a Contract for the Fire Access Improvements Project at Marion Avenue and Hazel Avenue and at Rose Avenue and Hazel Avenue in Mill Valley. These intersections are in a critical wildland urban interface area and access improvements are essential to protect life and property during an emergency. To conduct the needed widening at these locations, the project will require grading of the roadway as well as construction of a retaining wall next to the roadway. Harrison Engineering has evaluated design options with Dept. of Public Works and Mill Valley Fire Dept. and determined the least impactful design alternatives to achieve the needed access improvements.

Rose Ave & Hazel Ave project has been completed, and Marion Ave & Hazel Ave project begins construction on January 6, 2020. The project will take approximately five weeks to complete depending on weather conditions. The contractor will do their best to complete the project faster than the allowed time frame.

This improvement requires road closures, detours and traffic delays for the duration of the project. All signs will be posted 48 hours in advance of work. “No Parking” signs will be posted 3 days in advance of work.
