Encyclopedia Britannica
The encyclopedia is a great place to start any research. 

There is a huge amount of great information all in one place, with resources divided into appropriate materials for Elementary Schoolers or Middle Schoolers. Here you'll find Primary Search, Middle Search Plus, TOPICsearch, Topic Overviews K-5 and 6-12, American Heritage Children’s Dictionary, and Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia. 

Khan Academy
Khan Academy has free, high-quality online lessons and courses in a variety of subjects including science, math, history, English, computer programming, test prep and more. An excellent resource for teens and adults. 

TeachingBooks is a multimedia database for students, teachers, and families to explore children's books and young adult literature and their authors. Get info on books and authors, and finally learn how to pronounce Rick Riordan's name (hint: long I sound, like in rye bread). 

Time for Kids
Time for Kids magazine has opened up free digital access to its grade-specific articles for the rest of the school year. You do have to have a parent sign up with Time for subscription. There is a vast amount of information here, with articles about history, animals, culture, financial literacy and so much more for kids.
