"Talkin' 'bout Mill Valley"

Rita Abrams's "Mill Valley" Song Turns 50

On December 25, 1969, schoolteacher Rita Abrams sat on a bench outside the Mill Valley bus depot and penned an ode to the town she'd come to call home the year before. In June 1970, a record featuring the undeniably catchy “Mill Valley” was released and became an international hit. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Rita Abrams’s tune, the Mill Valley Public Library’s Lucretia Little History Room has curated a digital exhibit where you can learn about the song's incredible history and its lasting cultural impact.

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of Abrams’s Oral History interview with journalist, melophile, and longtime Mill Valley resident Leonard Anderson. You can listen to that interview via the History Room’s Oral History collection right here!
