Summer’s here, school’s out, and one Mill Valley student has wrapped up his third-grade year with a whole lot of Mill Valley history knowledge and a fun goody bag filled with local prizes. Edna Maguire Elementary School student Colton Creath is the winner of the Lucretia Little History Room’s 2016 local history Bingo game. The game – which sent students to the History Room, online, and out to Mill Valley landmarks to answer questions or complete short activities about local history – was introduced this year as part of third-grade classes’ annual study of Mill Valley.
Students who completed the entire Bingo board were entered into a raffle to win the goody bag, which included:
Assorted treats from SweetE Organic (Strawberry Village Shopping Center)
A watercolor paint set from Once Around craft shop (352 Miller Ave.)
A $10 gift certificate to Honeymoon Ice Cream (34 Miller Ave.)
A map of Mill Valley’s Steps, Lanes, and Paths
Commemorative postcards with historical photos of the Mill Valley Library
A huge thank you to SweetE Organic, Once Around, and Honeymoon Ice Cream for your donations, and congratulations to Colton!
Note for teachers: To support third-grade social studies curriculum, third-grade classes at Mill Valley schools are invited each year to visit the Mill Valley Public Library for tours of the Lucretia Little History Room and the Library’s Children’s Department. If you would like your class to participate, please contact History Room Librarian Cate Mayfield at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Lucretia Little History Room has curated files on a wide variety of Mill Valley topics to support the annual third-grade local history projects.
