DEI Initiatives Update - December 15, 2020

December 15, 2020

On Monday, December 7, following the DEI Task Force's presentation of their Report and Recommendations, Council directed staff to conduct a high-level sort of the 30 recommendations and place them in the following categories:

  1. Recommendations already implemented;
  2. Recommendations underway;
  3. Recommendations that are new or need additional consideration from Council, Staff, Commissions or legal research;
  4. Recommendations beyond direct City control but could still be influenced.

The recommendation to form a DEI Commission is one of the 30 recommendations under review and being sorted into the categories listed above. Staff will bring the initial review of the recommendations, along with a work plan, back to Council on either January 21 or February 1.

“I want to thank the Task Force for bringing such care, such heart, and professionalism and willingness to work hard to this process,” Mayor Sashi McEntee said.

Council acknowledged the community’s sense of urgency, and desire for transparency and accountability as the process continues. They affirmed their commitment to make meaningful progress and to devote the time and resources to do so quickly and thoughtfully.
