SASM Board to Review Camino Alto Pump Station Improvements at Upcoming Meeting

Project Will Include Improvements to Safety, Capacity, and New Landscaping at the Corner of Camino Alto and Miller Ave

The Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin (SASM) Board of Commissioners will be considering the approval of plans to improve the Camino Alto Pump Station on the corner of Miller Avenue and Camino Alto at their meeting this Thursday, February 16, 2016. The pump station is located mostly underground on the lawn next to The Redwoods Retirement Community (Redwoods). The scope of the project includes the replacement of a new flow meter pit, an influent manhole, sewage pumps, electronic control panels, flow monitoring equipment, and an emergency generator to ensure improved safety, capacity and reliability. Landscaping design plans are being finalized after receiving favorable feedback from the Redwoods and the City of Mill Valley’s Planning Department.

SASM staff and the SASM Board President, Lew Kious, met with the Redwoods staff and over 40 residents on February 8, 2017, to present project plans and a timeline for the construction. The discussion included potential impacts on the community during construction and the future look of the facility after project completion. President Kious emphasized how important it is for SASM to be a good neighbor. He affirmed that SASM’s goal during this project is to minimize inconvenience to the community during construction and to ensure that the project provides landscape improvements to the area. Staff answered numerous questions from the residents and received a positive response. Construction of this project is planned to begin in May 2017 with an anticipated completion date in October 2017.
