Red Flag Warning Issued for North Bay

October 13, 2017

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning with gusty winds and low humidity today into Saturday evening.

Northerly winds will decrease through much of Friday, although local gusts up to 25 mph are still possible on higher ridges andpeaks. North to northeast winds are then forecast to increase once again late Friday and become locally strong and gusty Fridaynight and Saturday. Strongest winds are expected to be at elevations above 1500 feet in the North Bay Mountains and EastBay hills on Friday night and Saturday morning.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly, especially over elevated terrain overnight. Outdoor burning is not recommended. Avoid activities with open flames or sparks. Don’t drive onto dry grass or brush. Properly discard cigarettes. Evacuate if ordered to by local officials.

Due to the fire danger, the following public lands have announced closures:

  • MMWD's Mt. Tamalpais watershed lands are closed to public motor vehicle traffic on Sky Oaks Road beyond the Sky Oaks Ranger Station. All watershed land use permits have been suspended. No fires or BBQs permitted. Natalie Coffin Greene Park is closed to vehicle traffic.
  • Marin County Open Space and  Marin County Parks lands, events and programs are closed/cancelled for duration of the Red Flag warning. For additional Parks and Open Space closure information, please call (415) 473-6387.
